Transfer Musings – Zhirkov – opinion

Although it is a bit early for transfer discussion, I thought I would write a little transfer musing, I was inspired following investment talk that was discussed on our forum today. And that I’m really excited about next season already as Yakubu and hopefully Arteta will be back. Anyway, there is only a few games left!

Left wing: We discussed today about how the first choice team we have has no width. Arteta wants to play in the center, so does Fellaini, Neville, Cahill and even Osman. This a problem; you can’t have 5 central players in the midfield area. That would provide no natural width if you play central players out wide.

Most fans are after a natural winger with pace, skill and who can put a quality cross in, I think CSKA Moscow player Zhirkov would be an excellent signing and could be magnificent on our wing. He’s good enough for any squad in the league in my opinion and I think he should be a top top target for us. I’m surprised no team has signed him yet, however Chelsea are reportedly chasing him. £15M could get him. Steven Pienaar is playing there at the moment and my only concern is can Zhirkov match Pienaar’s work rate?

Stewert Downing is an option instead – if Boro go down it would be easier to get him on the cheap.

Creative Midfield: Kranjar has been mentioned as an option. He’s a proven PL player I liken him a bit like Arteta but Kranjar he plays a bit more advanced. If Arteta is injured we do have no backup creative midfielder. For those that don’t know, Moutinho has singed a new deal with Sporting so you can all wave goodbye to chance of that happening.

Defensive Midfield: A backup defensive midfielder is needed if Castillo does not sign (but based on the Chelsea game if he continues like that then I think he may be worth a punt – not sure his value). Castillo likes to get stuck in and he actually has a bit of skill (you wouldn’t think so),  Lorik Cana is a top one to look for as he can actually play a bit as well, but Lorik would want always want (and is good enough) a first team place.

Having read our forum a right sided defender is wanted amongst a few but personally I do not see a need when Neville, Jagielka and Hibbert can all play there to good effect.

Anyway we will all have to watch this space. *Wink*
