Steven Pienaar has confirmed that he is going to Spurs, after the midfielder  rejected a move to Premier League champions Chelsea.

The 28 year-old South African said on his Twitter page, “To end speculation I am going to Spurs.”

Pienaar, who will wear squad number 40 at Spurs, also said Everton will remain in his heart, “I’ve had brilliant years at Everton and it will always be a special place in my heart.”

Everton will be disappointed to see Pienaar leave especially as the club are unlikely to be able to fund a quality replacement.

It is unclear if Pienaar is leaving because of a wage issue or due to a lack of investment in our playing squad. Either way, Pienaar is leaving a club which rescued his career in Germany and turned him into a top class player who was guarenteed a place in the starting 11, and so he may regret  leaving to become squad player at Spurs.
