Phil Neville: “I know for a fact Donovan wants to sign for us”
By Ian Phillips • Jul 10th, 2010 • Category: News |Phil Neville has claimed that Landon Donovan would jump at the chance to re-join Everton if a deal could be agreed with LA Galaxy. Neville, commentating for EvertonTV for this morning’s 1-0 win over Sydney FC, was asked by a viewer whether he thought Everton should sign the USA captain on a permanent basis. “Definitely” was Neville’s reply, “The World Cup was probably a bad thing for Everton, his price will have gone up by £5 or 6 million!” The Everton skipper went on to say “I’ve spoken to Landon and I know for a fact that he wants to come back here”. However whether Everton would be able to afford him remains a different issue, as stated by Neville his price will have risen after the World Cup, and the loss of a potential £4m from Dan Gosling’s departure from the club could prove to be vital.
Meanwhile Donovan’s former team-mates impressed on their first outing of the 2010/11 season beating A-League Champions Sydney FC at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park. Victor Anichebe looked most impressive, and the Nigerian scored a fantastic goal from a Leighton Baines pass just after the break, turning his defender and powering a shot into the top corner from close range. Everton new boy Magaye Gueye was given the 2nd half to impress and certainly didnt look out of place in David Moyes’s side, who wore their brand new fluorescent pink kit. Fellow new boys Joao Silva and Jermaine Beckford didn’t play, with Silva an un-used substitute and Beckford sitting out through injury.
