Everton snap up JOAO SILVA
By Ryan G • Apr 28th, 2010 • Category: News |Everton have signed Portuguese striker Joao Silva for £500,000.
Everton manager David Moyes had been in the hunt to swoop for a “different” striker with Everton supposedly agreeing a pre-contract with Leeds United striker Jermain Beckford.
It may be the case that Beckford will not be completing a deal to Everton at the end of the season after Everton won the race to sign Desportivo Aves starlet Joao Silva, who has been dubbed the new Pauleta due to the similarity in footballing attributes and both players starting out at lower league clubs.
Evertonians will look be looking forward to seeing a glimpse of this exiting prospect who has scored 13 goals this season as he caught the eye of Everton scout and ex-player Nuno Valente.
It appears that Everton are looking to bring in new players to Goodison as early as possible with Legia Warszawa goalkeeper Jan Mucha already set to join Everton at the end of the season.
Joao Silva was delighted to have agreed to join Everton. “I am calm and working for my club now, but I am happy because to play in the Premier League is a dream for any footballer because it is the best in the world,” he said.
“Everton are a great club, I have seen them on television and they have great players.”
“Due to my own characteristics, I believe it will be perfect for me – it will be an enormous move for me but I am ambitious and will stay positive.”
“It is a coincidence and an honour to be compared to Pauleta,” he continued.
Joao Silva has came through the ranks at Desportivo Aves and is a striker with great physique and is 6ft 2″ tall. Should Everton sign an out-and-out right winger this summer there would be a great combination, however Silva will likely be behind Louis Saha and Yakubu in the pecking order for a place up front.
We can confirm he is thankfully not the twin sister of Everton’s former ever-so prolific striker Joao Silva.
