FollowEverton can reveal Everton have agreed a deal to bring 31 year old 6 ft 3¹⁄₂ in French defender Sylvain Distin to Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee.

Distin, who can cover at left back is initially thought to be cover for the injured Phil Jagielka, however Everton are looking to bring in another, presumably long term first choice central defender, with Everton having a bid for Brazil international central defender Luisao rejected today. However, Distin will be considered by many as a like for like replacement of Lescott.

Robert Elstone says the deal has been completed: “All the formalities have been completed. After Sylvain made it clear his preferred destination was Goodison, the Chairman moved quickly to finalise the deal and Sylvain is now on his way to Merseyside to undergo a medical.”

Distin will sign for Everton pending a medical and could feature for Everton against Wigan this weekend.
