Pienaar to follow Lescott out the Goodison door?
By Ian Phillips • Jul 28th, 2009 • Category: News |Steven Pienaar has confirmed that he has rejected a new contract at Everton as he seeks Champions League football. However as the man himself pointed out, it is not unusual for the first contract to be rejected in these negotiations. Pienaar said “It is seldom that both parties come to an agreement at the first attempt. Coming to such an important agreement takes time. We have only just started discussions and we will keep on talking until hopefully we get a deal that is right for both parties. The fact that it is taking time does not mean I am unhappy at Everton, but this next contract for me is obviously very important at this stage of my career. I would like to play Champions League football again and hopefully that will be with Everton.”
The summer long transfer saga of Joleon Lescott is now set to continue after Chelsea’s John Terry eneded speculation over a possible move to Man City. With the signing of Kolo Toure imminent, City will be desperate to partner him with Lescott and an increased bit is expected within the next few days. It is reported that Everton are holding out for £30m though whether a deal happens or not will probably be down to the player himself.
