The Galacticos And The Rest
By Unclassified • Jul 15th, 2009 • Category: News |This summer has seen some huge transfers, with Real Madrid spending more than our record annual revenue on one player alone. When Manchester United and AC Milan, the two biggest and richest clubs in their leagues, are forced to sell their star players, this summer has proven once and for all that any club who states ‘we’re not a selling club’ is clearly lying.
Manchester United, arguably the biggest and richest club in the world has endured a summer which would have most Evertonian’s pulling their hair out. They’ve sold their star player Ronaldo and had to release Tevez and replaced them with Valencia and Owen, that’s like Everton selling Yakubu and Arteta and bringing in Stephen Hunt and Lee Trundle.
On the other side of Manchester, City have been huge spenders, and having spent big on Tevez, Santa Cruz, Barry and soon to be Adebayor, now have a large amount of world class strikers, and as long as no manager is tactically astute enough to attack them, they could do some damage to midtable.
But for the rest it’s a game of follow Everton. Now that Newcastle have disappeared into the Fizzy Pop league, clubs have been lining up to stalk David Moyes and his scouts. Manchester United have taken Owen from under our nose (wipes away tear) whilst Spurs and Villa have been falling over themselves to take Naughton from us after Sheffield United’s confirmation of our bid has lead to increased bids from Spurs, a situation I’m sure the Blades never imagined releasing confirmation of our bid would create.
Despite Redknapp and ONeil’s new found voyeurism, I’m confident Moyes will still pull some rabbits out the hat, and come next season we’ll be in a position to build on our status as the best of the rest.
