Owen waiting for another club? Everton?!

Michael Owen today stated that he will commit himself to Newcastle United until the end of the season, but won’t sign his new contract until then.

Much speculation has surrounded whether or not the 29 year old Englishman would sign on at St-James’ Park before January, when he is free to talk to other clubs. Indicating that he is willing to wait until the summer therefore states his intent at potentially leaving.

With Spurs and Chelsea also waiting in the wings it is apparent that if the toffees were to step in with a cheeky bid they would face very stiff competition.

“I hope this is seen as a positive, and not disloyal in any way,” he said.

“Following speculation about my future at Newcastle United, I have decided today to make it clear that I am committed to the club until at least the end of this season, and I have informed them I do not want to make a decision about my future until that time.

“I am happy here and enjoy the challenge. It is simply a matter of seriously thinking about my future as I was 29 last week and my next career decision is a crucial one.

“My decision is not about money. I told the club some months ago that I would accept a reduction in my wages.

“I have no intention of leaving Newcastle United during the January transfer window and want to assure the fans that under Joe Kinnear’s passionate management, I am committed to ensuring the club ends the season on a high.”

  1. great player but; We cant afford his wages, and Man City will be able to meaning he may prefer a move there – also he is ageing.
