Vaughan having imminent operation

James Vaughan, the England U21 striker is due to undergo surgery on his knee this week.

The surgery was initially scheduled to take place in the U.S last week, but unfortunately the doctor broke his arm just after the Brit touched down. It wasn’t certain whether or not Vaughan would wait until the surgeon recovered but due to the current striker shortage, it is apparent that he has to get fit as soon as possible.

“James will see a surgeon on Tuesday, but it looks like the operation will be on Wednesday in this country,” said Everton boss Moyes.

“It’s his lateral cartilage. In the past, they would have taken it out, but nowadays, they trim it in order to save as much of the cartilage as possible.

“It’s the cartilage on the outside of your knee. Steadman has always saved as much cartilage as he could, but the only downside is that it means a long rehabilitation. It might be close to him being out for the season now.”
