Castillo’s crazy for first team action.

Segundo Castillo is eager to re-gain a starting place within the first team even if it means having to wait his turn. He has only made four appearances since his arrival from Red Star in which he netted a brilliant goal against Standard Liege. With three fit centre midfielders in his way, Segundo realises he needs to wait his turn, however our team is crying out for a defensive midfielder.

The 26-year-old is keen to give Toffees fans further glimpses of his capabilities.

“With every training session and every appearance I get for the reserves and the first team it’s important I improve, and do so on a day-to-day basis,” Castillo stated. “I’m just dying for that opportunity to show again what I can do and what I can bring to the team.

“You’ve always got to aim for the first team but I’ve been having to show a bit of patience so far. The main thing is to be ready and to keep on working so I’m at the disposal of the manager when he needs me.

“I’ve settled in and I’ve adapted well to the way football is played here. It’s just a case of trying to get that consistency which will get me a regular place in the first team. Hopefully if I can show myself in training and with the reserves that will come.”

An obstacle both Castillo and the other new boy Maurouane Fellaini have had to over come is the language barrier.

Fortunately for the midfielder, unlike in Fellaini’s case, both Mikel Arteta and Nuno Valente have been able to interprete for him.

“I think the language is coming along,” he said. “It can be a little bit difficult when your trying to understand your teammates, whether it’s in training or on the field.

“But the more and more time I spend here the easier it’s coming. Certainly Mikel has helped, as has Nuno Valente. I know the importance of learning the English language though and it is coming along.”
