Moyes wants 20m Moutinho before Sunday
By Ryan G • Jul 31st, 2008 • Category: News |Everton’s head of communications Ian Ross has declared that Everton manager David Moyes wants to bring in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Moutinho before this coming Sunday.
“We should be the only club of the Premier League that have not yet bought a player. The technician David Moyes wants to see this matter resolved quickly and everything has to be resolved by Sunday.”
Everton have already had an initial bid of £11.8 million for the Portuguese international turned down, which would have been a club transfer record.
Moutinho has already stated that he wishes to leave Sporting to join Everton. When asked “what is your will?” He replied “With the reasons that I have, I want to leave Sporting. I hope that an agreement can be found and that a good solution arrives for both parties.”
Ian Ross also added: “We still have not made a formal proposal, but twenty million euros will be our maximum. They are somewhat naive in thinking about it [type of payment] because nobody paid in cash and we do not pay all at once.”
Everton could be playing a dangerous game with Sporting thou by giving them an ultimatum. Sporting have been quite clear from the outset by saying the only way that they would sell their prize position is if Everton match Moutinho’s buy-out clause of 25 million euros.
With these quotes made by Everton’s head of communications, it would seem that all Evertonians will know by Sunday whether we will be successful in signing the 21 year old dynamo or not.
