19 Million Bid, Five Year Deal for Moutinho
By Ryan G • Jul 30th, 2008 • Category: News |A number of Portuguese news sources have suggested that Everton are ready to improve their bid for Sporting Lisbon Midfielder Joao Moutinho. The 21 year-old impressed at Euro 2008, and Sporting have already rejected Everton’s initial £11.8 million approach, which proved a catalyst for Moutinho expressing his desire to leave.
Portuguese website, ‘Record‘ , have reported that Everton will offer €19 million (£15 m), stating that the sale of Andrew Johnson has prompted Everton to up their offer, although it still falls short of Moutinho’s £19.7 valuation, which is also Moutinho’s buy-out clause which is active until 15th June each year. As part of the deal Everton will pay cash plus bonuses if Moutinho helps Everton qualify for the Champions League. Further grease to the wheels is that a clause in Moutinho’s contract entitles him to 10% of any rejected bid, so if Sporting reject the offer it is believed that Sporting will have to pay €1.9 million to Moutinho, and there is debate that Sporting already need to pay Moutinho €1.5 million Euros after they rejected Everton’s first offer.
Another Portuguese website, Jornal de Notícias have claimed that Everton will make an offer closer to €20 million in a five year deal, that would see Moutinho double his wages to £35,000 a week.
The whole saga has been linked to the sale of Andrew Johnson although Everton have stated that Johnson wished to move for personal reasons and that the club’s pursuit of Moutinho is independent of the move, put simply Johnson was not sold off to raise funds suggesting that Johnson’s departure provides an unexpected cash boon, allaying fears of a financial crisis being responsible for Everton’s lack of transfer activity so far this summer. However the sudden departure of CEO Keith Wyness has spread fears that it may scupper the deal, given that Wyness is believed to have been behind the amount of money that will be paid for Portuguese star, and further that David Moyes is currently on tour with his squad in North America. However, Pini Zahavi is Moutinho’s agent and is also working on Everton’s side of the deal too, with him in control Everton know they’ve got the best to bring in Moutinho. Zahavi is also Yakubu’s agent.
Everton fans must wait in anxious anticipation as to whether or not Moutinho will become the clubs biggest ever signing.
Thanks for the update.
First Wyness resigned and then this, I’m not sure what to say. What will happen if Wyness was controlling the Moutinho deal? Maybe then Kenwright will continue!
He was a complete liar Cake – I’m glad he’s gone. Evertonian who ditches us for sunny spain apparently. Gives us this stadium that lots don’t want and then runs away.
Well most who go to Goodison want to move and the rest do, thats how I’ve seen it personally.
Good to see more developments with Moutinho, now lets wait for him to be unveiled as an Everton player in the next week.
There was a great photo here of him an a blue shirt. I think its on the Sporting issue annoucement article but its really, really good. 😛
Keith Wyness was not in control of the Joao Moutinho deal his agent Pini Zaharvi was for both Everton FC and the player Joao Moutinho.
The idea that Wyness was driving this deal is not true, and is just a repetition of misreporting elsewhere. The club has licensed Zahavi to conduct all negotiations on our behalf regarding this deal and the apparent gap between the fee Sporting say they were offered and the offer the media suggested we were preparing is the agent’s fee – which will be a seven figure sum.
Good article, I can’t wait to get Moutinho with number 8 on the back of my new home shirt. 😛
Seen as though the comments are closed in the Wyness article I’ll voice my opinion here;
As the CEO departs to pastures new, there wont be many blues wishing him
well. His constant arrogance towards the fans will never be forgotten. i
remember the time i sent in a letter to the club asking why i had been given
only one vote for the kirkby project when i held five season tickets. his
reply was arrogant and sharp something on the lines of thats the criteria,
to wich i said i am seriousley thinking of not renewing, to which he replied
fair enough there will be a que for your seats. so thats how you treat loyal
supporters mr wyness, no comment was his reply. personally i will be glad to
see back of him. the club will not miss him whatsoever, there are people
much more capable of doing his job. he lost the respect of the fans even
before DK , amm going as far back as three years ago when the plane to
bucharest was cancelled, he organised that fiasco he outsoursed the travel
package so he was to blame.
then there was the vote for DK which was close to shambolic , for instance
people getting voting forms after the the closing date , and a criteria set
to suit him in achieving what he wanted.
ten theres the goalposts being moved DK not being what people voted for. we
were promised a world class stadium with fantastic transport . it turned out
to be a second class stadium with hardley ant transport infrastructure.
Nothing the man promised was delivered and everything he done was a sham,
from the GP stadium catering to the marketing department. he employed the
people who run these dpts he is accountable. Aa you can tell i will shed no
tears at his resignation and i think i will be joined by many other blues
who are glad to see the back of him.
this club will move forward now and the board might even start to gain the
respect of the fans again. No man is bigger than everton football club but
this man thought he was.
ADIOS KEITH hope our paths never cross again.
V. interesting read, the PSV game will be a sellout if Moutinho signs before them. I’ll be hoping for more then one signing though. We’re in trouble conceding goals at times so we need Carsley replacement asap – Cana / Mbami have been linked.
May I ad that I really like your website – your match reports & forum are especially good. Keep this up,.
I’m finding it hard to believe that a player of his class would consider a move to Everton like 😆
Message to Me whoever the hell you are! Go suck a kopits C*%K!!!!!! PLUM!!!
Hello,
I am a Sporting C. Portugal fan, and i would like Moutinho to stay, but considering the truth of the player’s stated wishes i hope he finds a good deal with Everton if he happens to sign in. He is Sporting’s most dear player, very sober on the field, with vision, and talented with the ball, it seems he doesn’t know how to play a bad game, even when things don’t go his way in this or that game. The fans are sad and even angry to see him leave, especially being sporting’s captain, but if his heart is no longer in Lisbon it might be difficult to keep him. I believe it is just a matter of time for the agreement between the two clubs to come through, although it might take something around 20 mil. Euros. And if the deal goes through i’ll be chearing for Everton when watching the PL games.
WELL I WOULD JUS LIKE TO SAY I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEE THE LIKES OF TOP CLASS PLAYERS LIKE HIM SELF MOUTHINO FOR A FEE AROUND 15M IF SPORTING TAKE THAT OFFER AND IF WE DO SIGN HIM HE WOULD BE THE BIG HEADLINE ON THE LIVERPOOL ECHO WERE IT WILL SAY “MOUTHINO BIGGEST TRANFER FOR THE TOFFOES EVER WE WOULDNT HAVE KNOWN THAT WOULD OF HAPPEND” SO I HOPE WE ALSO SIGN MEHEMT TOPAL FOR A FEE AROUND 2.5M THAT WOULD BE USFUL FOR US. THANK YOU ALL FOR READING . P.S. LETS ALL BACK MOYESY ON TRANFERS AND BILL HELPING HIM. 😉 😆 😛
😆 👿
Nice post João 😎
come on everton we need some signings before the league begins theres not long left. If we dont get any signings in then i dont think that we will do as good as what we did last season why couldn’t we of just got in there right at the beginning but instead we take are time and now we are suffering the consequences. if we have got the money then why dont we just go and buy him we where meant to of signed him this Sunday and still nothing has happened this is starting to do my head in now come on everton. Every day i go on the everton website and there is nothing about sighning new players but when i go on this website there are all sorts of diiffernt types of stories. These are all just rumours that are going round so for now on we just need to wait and find out what is going to happen. efc 4 life 😡
