Wyness Departs

After much rumour yesterday, Everton have confirmed the spreading conjecture with regards to Keith Wyness last night when it emerged that he has left the club.

Evertonfc.com gave the following statement:

‘Everton Football Club wishes to announce that Keith Wyness has resigned his position as Chief Executive Officer and director of the Club.’

This short statement may suggest that he was pushed rather than leaving of his own accord. There is none of the usual best wishes and we are still at a loss to explain his departure. Wyness’ FE profile is below.

Wyness joined in September ’04 with a grandiose plan to turn round the clubs failing fortunes off the pitch. During his tenure debt has increased and he has outsourced various functions at the club – the catering has gone to a business who specialise in school dinners and the merchandise to JJB. He has also sold various fixed assets at the club including Finch Farm before the works were actually completed

Keith was also considered by some to be the driving force behind Kirkby. Kirkby as we all probably know is a project which has made him very unpopular amongst a segment of the fan base.

Just before Wyness resigned, he made comments that suggested that the Kirkby project may be a dead duck if called in – could this be a precursor to any news with regards to Destination Kirkby.

Other news also emerged from the club, in that David Moyes has stated he is close to signing his new contract.

“Hopefully in the next week or so I’ll get it tied down and get it done.”

Interestingly Moyes also goes on to say;

“I want the best for Everton and I don’t want to let the players down. I’ve told them that there will be more [players] coming to help them along the way. I want to make sure that’s done before anything else.
Has he been waiting for the club to show him the colour of their money?

Has there been a power struggle behind the scenes? Question we may never answer. What we do hope however is Moyes commits ASAP to coincide with some serious squad strengthening.
