Vaughan Raring To Go

By • Jul 19th, 2008 • Category: News |

James Vaughan has had an injury ravaged career at Everton so far but the 19 year old is confident he can get his playing career back on track for the new season. He burst onto the scene back in 2005 where he scored on his debut in a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace which made him the youngest ever premiership scorer at just 16 years and 271 days old.

When asked about when he thought he’ll be back playing for the blues Vaughan replied “I’ve been trying to get back to fitness, it’s been a long summer but it needs to be done to get back to fitness. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll start training with the lads and then get as many games as I can before the season.”

Vaughan has probably had more injuries problems in his three year career then Evel Knievel did in his whole life. Vaughan’s had a succession of knee related injuries and operations, a dislocated shoulder and a severed foot artery.

The England under-21 international seemed apprehensive when asked about his knee injury history: “Obviously it’s at the back of your mind but for me I just want to concentrate on getting fit now and doing the best I can for Everton next season.”

Vaughan also said he believed that he should be fit for the start of the season: “I’m hoping so, as long as everything goes to plan I don’t see why I shouldn’t be.”

There is no doubt that James Vaughan has bags of talent but surely this is his season to shine if he can stay fit and healthy throughout the season. With Victor Anichebe going to the Olympic Games at the start of the season and rumours still circulating that Andrew Johnson could be leaving Goodison, this may open a window of opportunity for Vaughan.
