Tyden, a respected weekly news publication in the Czech Republic today reported that Josef Csaplár has joined the Everton payroll. It is suggested that Csaplár will work for Everton in a freelance consultancy role with a view to establishing an Everton scouting network in Eastern Europe.
Csaplár is seen by Moyes to be the right man to do this. He has had over 20 years coaching experience stretching back to 1989, which has seen him manage in his homeland as well as stints in both Poland and Greece.
The emergence of Russia, Croatia and Poland in the Euro’s has showcased Eastern Europe as a new hot bed of talent. Moyes will be hoping to tap into this knowledge so that Everton will get the first shot at the Vidics’ and Modrics’ of that part of the world.
Various news agencies around Europe have over the last 48 hours linked us with Czech prospect Marek Suchý, whom it has been suggested is involved in a tug of war between ourselves and Glasgow Rangers. This story has been collaborated by the player himself no less, so there may very well be something in it.
Suchy is a centre back trade but can also play in centre midfield, which is in line with Moyes’ preference for versatility. The player highly regarded in the Czech Republic to the extent that he was awarded the ‘Golden Ball’ award in 2006. The ‘Golden Ball’ is given out to the most promising individual in the Czech league and it has previously been awarded to the likes of Tomas Rosicky and Petr Cech. It seems Suchy has high stock.
Whether Suchy is the first in a line of talent joining the Blues from the former Eastern Bloc remains to be seen. The move in the direction of spreading our wings in the search of talent can only be seen as a good thing however. Arsenal are a shining example of the rewards that a robust scouting network brings. As always in Moyes we trust.

Improving our scouting network can only be a good thing I reckon. He might even have an influence over the Czech centre half moyes is after!!
Great article. This is a stroke of genius on the part of Moyes, employing a scout to bring in promising eastern europeans. Russia and Croatia have brought through some promising youngsters in recent times and Moyes has realised that bringing in quality players for cut prices is key for Everton to progress.
“emergence” of Russia, Croatia and Poland?
Were they shit before then?
Great Article and a further insight into Moyes long term strategy. To the previous poster Si, Russia in particular are vastly improved over the last couple of years and Croatia are recovering from the split form the former Yugoslavia – surely you get the sentiment of the article?
Overall good planning again from Moyes!!
