Could There Be Trouble Ahead?
By Ryan G • Jun 26th, 2008 • Category: Fan Articles, News |There has been increased speculation this week that the outcome of the decision made by the government on the proposed move to Kirkby will decide how much David Moyes will have to spend on transfers this summer.
If the government calls for a public enquiry it could take up to a year before a final decision is made. It is thought that Everton would not be able to afford the increased costs that they would incur and would have to shelve the project.
If these suggestions become reality then there could be a real possibility that Moyes could leave the club. The Scottish supreme has still to sign a new contract with the Merseysiders and has only a year left on his current. It seems he won’t sign anything until he defiantly knows he has a good transfer fund to improve the squad for the new season.
There has been newspaper speculation over the last few days that Moyes will have to sell Andrew Johnson for an estimated £7-10 million to bring in much needed transfer funds if the move to Kirkby is delayed. This would be seen as a huge step back for the club as selling one of their key talisman would hinder their progress made over the past two years.
Everton have come out this week and squashed rumours that they are prepared to make an offer for the out of favour Tottenham striker Darren Bent. Reports suggested that Andrew Johnson would be sold so Moyes had enough funds to sign the England international, who has been at Spurs for twelve months.
Zenit Saint Petersburg has confirmed today that Spanish giants Barcelona have made an enquiry for the services of Andrei Arshavin. The Russian dynamo had already said earlier this week he wanted to move to the Catalan club. He said “Barcelona are my dream, I never thought I would have a genuine chance to play for the club. I have supported Barcelona all my life, let’s see how the situation unfolds.”
This is a huge blow for most Evertonians who were hoping Everton would secure the services of the 27 year old playmaker. Arshavin is playing for his country tonight in their Euro 2008 semi-final against Spain for a place in the final on Sunday.
Any Evertonian who thinks there was the slightest chance of signing Arshavin is living in cloud cookoo land.He was always gonna go to the biggest club in the champions league who wanted him,we unfortunately cannot match their money or exposure. As for saying we should have signed him months ago???? get real he wasnt for sale his agent was always ready for when he had played the euros
Arshavin was very poor tonight. Hope that helps. 😆
