Arteta, Kallstrom, Arshavin…
By Ryan G • Jun 20th, 2008 • Category: News |There were plenty of rumours flying around Goodison Park in this past week. Everton have been linked with a number of players including Kevin Thomson (Rangers), Mariusz Lewandowski (Shakhtar Donetsk), Orlando Engelaar (FC Twente), Joao Moutinho (Sporting Lisbon), Riki (Deportivo La Coruna) and Andrei Arshavin (Zenit Saint Petersburg).
There are an increasing amount of rumors going around that Mikel Arteta wants to leave Everton and move back to Spain. He is apparently missing his family who are based in Madrid and Atletico Madrid are interested in the 26 year old. If the Spaniard leaves the Merseysiders then David Bentley could be on the top of David Moyes transfer list as the England international has come out saying he wishes to leave Blackburn to further his career.
Two players that David Moyes has been looking over in Euro 2008 have been knocked out of the tournament. Kim Kallstrom (Sweden) and Joao Moutinho (Portugal) are now available to talk to if Moyes wants to. Another two of Moyes’s supposed targets are in action in the next couple of days. Arda Turan of Turkey is playing Croatia today and Andrei Arshavin of Russia is playing the Netherlands tomorrow.
Zenit manager Dick Advocaat said last week that the deadline for an Arshavin transfer would be Friday 20th June, todays date. The Zenit manager has today (20th June) said that Arshavin has told him he wants to leave the club.
Manuel Fernandes could be making his move to Everton permanent in this transfer window because the new Valencia manager (Unai Emery) has given the go ahead for Fernandes to end his nightmare career at the Spanish giants. It is reported that Everton could sign the Portuguese under-21 international for around a cut down price of £6 million.
Joseph Yobo has turned into a goal scoring machine for Nigeria in their world cup qualifying group. He had already scored the winner against Sierra Leone earlier this month and he did it again this week scoring the winner against Equatorial Guinea. It has been a hard and tiring season for Yobo and his team-mates Yakubu and Anichebe whose season is going to finish on Saturday with another game against Equatorial Guinea.
In other news this week, the Swiss side FC Sion have announced that they will be playing Everton as part of the toffees training camp plans in Switzerland on the 12th July. However, Everton have stressed that the fixture is not officially on yet as they have some issues that need to be resolved first.
I hope we sign Manuel Fernandes on a permenant for £6 million. 🙂
