Holland players impress

Last night the Netherlands destroyed France 4-1 in Euro 2008 and a few days earlier they did something similar against the world cup holders Italy beating them 3-0. The likes of Rudd Van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben took all of the headlines and there were numerous Dutch players who impressed a lot of watching Evertonians.

Engelaar

Orlando Engelaar played in midfield last night alongside De Jong, which let Van Der Vaart, Sneijder and Kuyt bomb on forward to help support Van Nistelrooy. What was disappointing with his performance last night was when Engelaar was asked to do something fairly creative, he gave the ball away. It is thought that a tall defensive midfielder is on the top of David Moyes’s shopping list and Engelaar seems to fit the bill rather nicely…. but then again, his smaller Holland team mate Van Der Vaart would be a excellent signing.

Engelaar is 28 years old and plays his club football for FC Twente. He is six foot and five inches tall and helped FC Twente into the champions league last season by beating Ajax in a playoff.

Kallstrom – Arshavin

So far in this year’s European championships Evertonians haven’t been able to see some of the possible signings for Everton on show. Kim Kallstrom has started on the bench for Sweden in both games so far and Andrei Arshavin is currently suspended for Russia. Kallstrom came on for the last 5 minutes for Sweden against Spain and showed composure in his play, however, he couldn’t stop David Villa from scoring the winner in the 92nd minute for Spain.

Arshavin was once again in the transfer gossip page in most newspapers this week. It is now thought that Newcastle United are ready to pay £11 million for the Russian international. However, Zenit Saint Petersburg has made a statement saying “If Arshavin doesn’t leave by June 20 he’ll stay in the team”.

This statement will finally force teams who are interested in Arshavin to play their hand and Evertonians will finally find out whether Everton will make a move for the Russian dynamo.

  1. Kallstrom has just come on in the 86th minute 😐

  2. Good article mate.
That advert pissed me off. ‘You will never walk alone’ was in a shop window. What is the meaning of the advert? To make the city of Liverpool look Spanish!

  3. I do feel Everton need to stand up and do something. We’re being over took now with all these Liverpool things.

I do feel that Arshavin comments where just to hurry up a deal. Hopefully Moyes read it. 😆

Why the fuck Kallsrom doesn’t start for Sweden I don’t know.

  4. Please can I come play at Everton England next season. I play good football I play my game well I want to move to big club not like Newcaslte. 😆 😆 😆

  5. God that advert makes me feel like shit 😯

  6. I don’t think Everton could buy a league one player in a week never mind Andrei Arshavin 😐

  7. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the advert.
Had it been an advert trying to ‘sell’ the city of Liverpool then I would have had a problem with it – but as it is – it’s just Nike selling boots – had they shown some kids in blue talking Spanish it would have been a reference to Arteta (and I think he wears Adidas boots?) – which would have undermined Nike’s sales pitch.

Good to see Lee Presley back playing football though!
