Vic to miss start of next season
By Ryan G • May 30th, 2008 • Category: News, Uncategorized |Victor Anichebe will miss the start of the next Premier League campaign after being named in the Nigerian Olympic squad.
Joseph Yobo was also set to appear in the Olympic side, however following an administration error, Yobo was left off the list and instead will be reporting to Everton for the start of the season.
Speaking on the matter, a spokesperson for the Nigeria Football Association said, ‘Our secretary forgot to include Yobo’s name in our preliminary squad, so he won’t be going, which is Everton’s gain.’
This is certainly good news for Everton who will be able to select from all of their defensive options from the beginning of the season, however Yobo is said to be disappointed.
The close date for the Olympics is Sunday 24th August and so Anichebe may not be available until the August 30th Matchday, consequently missing up to four of the new seasons games.
