The fans’ story – Wembley

By • Apr 24th, 2009 • Category: Fan Articles |

I got to the ground at 2:30pm and was reading the programme and soaking up the atmosphere until 3:30. Then I was shocked at seeing Man U’s team sheet and knew then we had a real chance of winning! 3:45 onwards I was singing my heart out. The entire game was a blur and I can only remember the penalties even though part of me didn’t even want to watch them as I thought we were definitely going to lose (especially when Cahill missed!). I went absolutely mental when Jagielka scored the winner and smacked some bloke in the face behind me. After the game finished I stayed for about 10-15 minutes singing and pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Then I got back to the car in the car park and we were stuck behind Nuno Valente and his missus (who is  HOT).”

“I didn’t have a ticket but decided to get to Wembley and soak up the atmosphere ( amongst other things). I contacted Paul from the forum for a meet up which unfortunately didn’t happen. I ended visiting all the public houses on the High Street , I knew that the Green Man would be choker so only walk down to the stadium and back. You lot make me feel proud to support such a team. You certainly turned up in your thousands and the decibel level was probably the loudest I’ve ever heard by the Blues at Wembley ( I’ve been to a few ) Those who established themselves in the locals behaved themselves impeccably. The landlords of my local (The Bear) praised the way you lot behaved and hoped to be serving us again in the final. To those of you who couldn’t watch those penalties I feel for you. Indeed earlier penalty shoot outs have led me to cover my ears and ears but this time I faced up to it and well ………FANTASTIC.
Again thanks for showing London how you can party and not cause trouble. Take a bow all of you………….. The Team and the Fans were exceptional……..”

I’d tried desperately to get tickets entering every competition I could find and scouring the internet in hope. Eventually it dawned on me that I wasn’t going to get one and by the time I’d heard about the Everton party at Silverspoons near Wembley tickets had already sold out for that too. In the morning of the big game I decided to stay and watch it home and save the money so asked my mate, a United fan, to come round and watch it with me. We spent 120 minutes talking about Marouane Fellaini’s hair, the game was that dull, my mate likens him to Ivan Campo. After the thriller at the Villa last week I was actually quite pleased the game was that dull as it wasn’t as nerve-wracking, but then the penalties came. Beforehand I was very pessimistic having seen United win many a penalty shoot-out and the only Everton shoot-outs in my memory were defeats to Fiorentina and Thailand’s U23s. I’d noticed that Tim Howard (or T-How as his team-mates call him!) hadn’t saved a penalty for Everton once, so when Cahill blazed over I thought it was all over. The 2 saves from Howard prompted no reaction as I knew it wasn’t over yet. But when Phil Jagielka stuck that ball in the net I went mad and completely shocked my mate who was expecting a more understated celebration. A truly great day, the best moment of my life considering I was too young to remember 95. Bring on the final!

I got up early doors for the train at Wigan north western and even though it was only the second stop on the line the train was already full. So we had to stand in the corridor next to the toilets all the way down but we had some Peroni’s and Heineken’s to enjoy. Arrived into Euston at 12 and caught the tube from Euston square to Wembley park and made our way to the green man after being given the wrong directions by a bizzie with a map! Finally after a bit of a walk and another Heineken we got to the green man. The place was rocking we could hardly move it was that packed. we left the green man about 30 minutes before the game and got to our seats with about 20 mins to go. The game was brilliant the best flag was ‘Superman wears Tim Cahill pyjamas’ The penalties were awesome so many up’s and downs I still didn’t believe we would win until the final penalty went in. When Z-cars came on it was brilliant grown man in tears and people dancing in the aisles. Then 32,000 people singing along to Hi ho silver lining as though they knew all the words. After all the celebrations it was time to go home.

Special mentions to the man with the sex doll with Torres scrawled on the back – awesome.
Also the 50 odd year old in the row behind who just grabbed me into a hug so that I fell over my seat.”

I left the Rocket at 07.00 in a Limo Coachand was hammered by the toll road. I got to Silverspoons at about 1 ish and got even more hammered. You can see me on Youtube  singing “And we love out Neville Southall” I got into the ground and met up with Paul Lopez and just enjoyed the day more and more. I got home around 4ish on Monday Morning. I’ve just been to the hospital to see if they can remove the big smile from my face, it’s starting to hurt now but its worth it!”

I got up around half 7 and left the house to go to the National Express coach station with my mate. It was rocking with about 10 coaches worth getting on in the space of a few minutes. We left the coach station at half 8 and the journey started with a few chorus’ of “We’re on the march with Moyesie’s Army, We’re all going to Wembley”, inevitably. Then we stopped at a service station in Stafford. There was already at least 30 coaches there and plenty of mancs sipping their boverals. Evertonians dominated though and with the shop open security had to be tight. We set off from the service and got to another service around 12 and I broke my fast and tucked into a lovely burger and chips from Burger King!

We got to Wembley around 20 past 1 and once we parked I arranged to meet Toblerone Boots from the forum, my Uncle if you like and saw him outside the ground. He was with his son Matt and they both went in about 3pm. I set off to find The Green Man pub but after 15 minutes searching I gave up! I settled for outside the stadium and I’m glad I did! It was rocking there! There was at least 3,000 blues drinking and chanting basically going mental! It was a sight to see and luckily I have a picture of it on the site. I went into the stadium about 3.40 and had a minor heart attack when news filtered through that Fergie had left out Ronaldo, Rooney and Van Der Sar. I was filled with confidence at that point and deep inside I knew we would be victorious. There was a few scares in the game and the Lescott deflection was the most terrifying point of the game. When it went to penalties I thought we were doomed but the mighty Blues proved us wrong and sent us to the final with a combination of cool heads and good finishes. The celebrations after Jagielka’s penalty were a sight to remember. Sadly I had just bought a huge coke and  ended up throwing that into the crowd. I’m sure they didn’t mind though as Everton were in the F.A Cup Final for the first time in 14 years. The songs started after the penalties with Z-Cars and people embarrassingly “Humming along”. Then it was Hi-ho silver lining with people trying to sing along (epic fail mind you) but overall an amazing day and boy I cant wait to do it again next month!
