BREAKING: Everton Accept Manchester City’s Rodwell Bid

By • Aug 12th, 2012 • Category: News |

Everton have accepted an undisclosed bid from Manchester City for the services of midfielder Jack Rodwell.

The 21-year-old – who was called up to the England squad for their friendly against Italy in midweek – will have a medical with the Premier League champions on Sunday.

It is believed that the player did not ask to leave Everton this summer, but the club felt Manchester City’s offer was too good to turn down, especially with the squad imbalance and emergence of fellow midfielder Junior.

Should the transfer go through, fans will harbour mixed reactions, especially if the rumoured £20m transfer-fee for the versatile midfielder is not immediately re-invested in the squad.

Whereas some fans will be glad to see the back of a player who has struggled heavily with injuries, others will be disappointed to see such a promising young player leave. The boyhood blue was once tipped to provide the spine of the Everton and England midfield for years to come, with the view that he would link up with fellow academy graduate Ross Barkley in their respective midfields.

Despite his age and these injury problems, Rodwell has made 109 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 9 goals in the process.

  1. Doesn’t come as a big surprise one of the squad with a high value had to go to fund the debt! No doubt club were under pressure again from bank. Expect a small amount of the cash will fund a couple of loans!
