Our match summary: “It was a great start to Everton’s Premier League season. With Rafa Benitez receiving an initial great reception, Everton made a bright start. After 20 minutes, probing but unable to find a goal, Michael Keane was dispossessed after taking too long on the ball. Southampton took the lead, punishing the Toffees. Everton struggled to recover but after half time, a change of pace and formation allowed Everton to regain control. An Andros Townsend header back into the box from a set piece was enough to allow Richarlison to apply the finishing touch. Iwobi, a substitute, provided energy and impetus that allowed Doucoure to score a magnificent strike and put the Blues in the lead. A Calvert Lewin diving header secured the three points, after great work from Richarlison down the right.”
