“World Class” Arshavin
By Ryan G • Jun 22nd, 2008 • Category: Fan Articles |Andrei Arshavin shone in the spotlight last night as Russia took Holland apart as the Russians thrashed the Dutch 3-1.
Transfer Target.
Arshavin has been a Everton transfer target since last January and the Everton board have always promised to back David Moyes when there are players available who can improve the team. The News Of The World are today reporting that David Moyes will have showdown talks with the Everton board over transfer funds to sign Arshavin. However, the same newspaper reports Everton are awaiting for a decision on their new stadium before letting Moyes spend any cash.
Dangerous last night.
Arshavin was dangerous for the whole game, using his pace, skills and passing ability to rip Holland apart at times. Arshavin can also play the “killer pass” that Everton have been missing for years and Arshavin would surely be the “missing piece” in the Everton jigsaw – although Everton need a defensive midfielder first. Arshavin has been described as an “architect”.
Arshavin performance.
Russia and Holland were tied at 1-1 after normal time when Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s diving header in the last few minutes of normal time canceled out Roman Pavlyuchenko’s first half goal.
In extra time Arshavin went on a rampaging run at Holland’s right back and then skipped past him to the by-line before clipping in a brilliant cross for Dmitri Torbinski to score a tap-in.
Only minutes later Arshavin scored a goal for himself after finding himself on the edge of the 6 yard box for a ‘goal-poacher’ type finish through the goalkeeper’s legs.
He can decide very very fast where he can create danger.
His club manager at Zenit commented on Arshavin a while ago saying this;
“Arshavin is a player who can decide very, very fast where he can create danger. He can turn left, right, he knows where the opponent is, he is a very strong player. – Dick Advocaat
Go buy Arshavin, sell Ronaldo Ferguson!
Andy Townsend commented on ITV that Alex Ferguson of Manchester United should sell Ronaldo for £60m and buy Arshavin for £20m as it would ‘make sense’. It was also said that there is ‘no-body’ better in the ‘hole’ between the striker(s) and the midfield.
It seems the ex-Villa player values Arshavin at £20m and that he compares with – although we hate to say it – a world class footballer in Ronaldo.
I want Everton!
In the January transfer window Arshavin said that Everton would of been his preferred choice should he of left Zenit.
“From a concrete proposal a foreign club. In the meantime, I speak literally,” there is interest, but offers no “. Many interested clubs from the English and Spanish championship. But if you ask, what would I choose, then everything will depend on the particular club . Priority is given a stronger team. “Everton” is quite suitable. Maybe I could prove it. I find it difficult to say where the better. In doing so, I do not think that in Spain worse. This is not the subject of life and of my emotions and desire. I want to come to a new team and play there. But to be one hundred percent sure, of course, can not, that will play. If I buy for big money, then of exactly will fall regularly. On the other hand, for small money I hardly sell “- Arshavin in January.
Arshavin set to move.
It was announced on Friday that Arshavin wants to move from his current club Zenit St Petersburg
“Andrei has told us that he wishes to change clubs.” – Dick Advocaat on Friday
Arsenal interested?
When asked directly about Arsenal’s reported interest, Advocaat replied: “What is written in newspapers is not always true.
Cost?
Price may become an issue should Everton make a bid, not only the transfer fee but Arshavin is reportedly being paid around £50k a week by Zenit. If Everton do put a bid in Arshavin then lets hope that when Everton beat Zenit at Goodison in the Uefa Cup we made a big impression on Arshavin.

With him being valued at 10 million pounds or so, I personally felt it was a no-go. The Russian league isn’t exactly the strongest and we walked over Zenit in November, albeit there was a fortunate decision which tilted the game in our favour. I didn’t seem to see much of Arshavin in that drab affair at Goodison, and this time last year if someone were to mention the name Andrei Arshavin, they would have been put in a mental home. How the Russian’s life has turned – how we need to sign him to show the type of ambition that would put us right up there with the top 4.
“He has got a sense of resilience about him, as well as luck, which can only be seen as a good thing.”

Sorry guys but he is for top class club. You needed to buy it earlier
He’s been on the studio team for numerous games that Arshavin has played in. Moyes has made at known he is an admirer and has never denied not wanting him when asked on the TV.
Great article. I feel that if we signed him and break our transfer record on him it would show such an intent that I feel we could acheve fourth place or more next season! Some of the ani kenwright etc and the ‘hes not backing the club’ talk may just go away.
ROBBIE EARL, GET IT OOOUT 😆
I’d be so disappointed if he signed for Newcaslte or Citeh over us 🙄 🙁
arshavin is the next ronaldo..we have to sign him..moyes if you are reading this..please sign HIM
How about you sell me and buy him? I don’t think thats a good idea as we need the players, 4 midfielders, 2 injury prone.
THE DAILY MAIL SAY ARSHAVIN HAS A BUY OUT CLAUSE OF AROUND 10M!
😀 😀
I would rather sign moutinho but if we got moutinho and arshavin there would be some serious competition at everton for midfield places, if we signed moutinho and arshavin we would seriously challenge the top 4 and some other players on a free, if we want that top 4 place we need to get a move on..
