Max O’ Collins: The Kenwright show
By Ryan G • Jun 22nd, 2008 • Category: Opinion |Mailbag entry from Max O’ Collins in Kent, this article was not written by FollowEverton.
Conflicting views on the forums have come about in this close season when
anyone has mentioned money. Some say Bill Kenwright /BK/Kenwrong is taking
us in the wrong direction and is cash strapped, meaning we won’t be able
to keep hold of our one prize asset – David Moyes. Also, due to these
‘insufficient funds’ we won’t be ble to push on to challenge the big
4. Others, like myself, feel that despite not spending so far in this summer
transfer window, that Kenwright is one of the best chairmen in the Premier
League. A controversial statement I know, but look at other chairmen, we
could do a hell of a lot worse.
Negatives:
Bill ‘dithered for too long’ (Michael Corleone) on the NTL deal,
causing it to ‘fall on its arse.’ Were NTL really right for us though?
They have since been bought by Virgin media, and I doubt any sort of
relationship would have been maintained.
Kenwright failed with the Kings Docks idea, which at the time was ‘the
deal of the century,’ with the stadium still being within the ‘capital
of culture.’ It would have definitely been better than Kirkby, which seems
a plan B compared to it.
Kenwright has displaced season ticket holders and in return there are
unused corporate seats, which is disgraceful if wholly true. We are the
fans, he is a fan, he should be more thoughtful.
He hasn’t accepted investments, although this could be deemed good, look
at Manchester City for example, great investment, but a power crazy chairman
who sees coming 9th, the best City have done in years, a failure of a
season.
He hasn’t got Moyes to sign a new contract yet, and this is the main
reason why people are worried about the club’s state. But having said
that, he hasn’t even come back from his summer break yet and is currently
helping out with the ITV’s coverage of the Euros.
Positives:
As said, there are worse chairmen in the Premier League. The yanks across
the park may invest, but have clocked up even greater sums of debt compared
to Kenwright and the Everton board. What has their vast debt got them, not a
lot, 4th spot-just?
Kenwright has broken the transfer record for the past three seasons
running. He has shown some ambition with the money he has available. He puts
as much money in the club (e.g ticket sales and shirt sales) into the club.
Despite not managing to ratify the Kings Docks proposal, he has managed to
come up with a plan B in the form of an impressive Kirby proposal , even
with the conflicting KEIOC fans’ group. (I know this may sound
contradictory to an earlier point.
To conclude, Kenwright is a fan of the club, and no matter what is said or
done, he has the good of the club in him. Every Evertonian has the club at
heart. No season ticket holder is really a businessman, and probably
wouldn’t understand half of what goes on. We, from the outside don’t
know half of what is going on. We don’t know figures, we can only guess.
Paper talk is usually a load of gibberish, and we, the public, really take
it too seriously. I, as an Evertonian, trust Kenwright and would much prefer
him to a power crazed multi millionaire who doesn’t know the offside rule.
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog.

Nice writing. You are on my RSS reader now so I can read more from you down the road.

So let me get this straight.
He’s a useless prick, who has fucked up time after time…but you’ll follow him coz he’s an ‘Evertonian’?
Yes EJ. Look at Thaskin…
Max we are all evertonians but if kenwright loves the club the way he says he does he would welcome investment instead of slamming the door in there faces. Tesco have already said openly that the Everton board have stonewalled potential investors. we are a club going nowere at the moment robbing peter to pay paul all the time. once Kirkby is rubber stamped he will sell his stake and run back to london and his mercenaryCEO will be off too with his objectives met and a big pay day while we the proper fans will be left in a souless half empty ground with empty corporate boxes and have sold our great history to a tesco town. its time for BK an co to take a good look at themselfs and market the club properly and seek genuine investors and not the type he has brought in recently who have all been his close buddies who bail him out with a few quid every now and then with idle promises that never come to true.
Thank you bill for rescuing us from Peter johnson but now its time for you to put up or sell up for the good of the club otherwise we will be fighting relegation battles again on the last day of the season while the sky4 get bigger.
At this moment i am a very worried blue regarding the direction our great club is going in.
Steveblue is right, but we are a strong club and always have been but we just need that boost, i really do believe that kenright is a good chairman but with some money in his pocket tho, he has the club at heart but has no money, it sounds just like me, i have the club at heart but have no money, tell me why do you think that bully beef is goin on about the uefa cup investment money not bieng enough, he knows himself that he cannot push everton further and is trying to get as much money as he can, sometimes i really do believe that some everton fans are blind to see what these silly owners of everton football club are doing running our great club. we could do so much better..
Maz spot in mate , all that our directors are interested in is how much they can make on our club even if it means selling your soul to tesco. we all have the club at heart we all pay our money and we all worry over the club with a board who dont really give a toss about what we think as long as they get there big fat pay cheque every month. i wish these fools would listen to the fans and what we are feeling and not through some phoney ballot held robert mugabe style .
Its the ideal time for everton to move forward and challenge for honours and also to repay the fans who have been so loyal even in the dark days but this board are holding us back for there own gain, is that what you call LOVE FOR THE CLUB. not in my eyes
