Europe’s biggest competition is set off again, this time in Austia and
Switzerland. The competition is split up into 4 groups, with the top 2 teams
going through the groups into the knockouts, all the way into the final.

Group A:
Portugal
Czech Rebublic
Switzerland
Turkey

Portugal are by far the stand out team of this group, their skill and
passing on the ball is outstanding, you would think Czech Rebublic would
ease through this group as well but with the co-hosts looking to to impress it might be tough for them. Also Turkey are there so
anything could happen.

Players to watch: C. Ronaldo and Koller

Group B:
Austria
Croatia
Germany
Poland

England fans will recognize Croatia there after they stopped them from
reaching Euro 2008. Their team looks in good form, with Spurs’ new star
Modric looking to impress as well as Portsmouth’s Krancjar, But will the loss
of Arsenal’s Eduardo damage them too much? Germany should qualify here quite
easily. Even though Austria are co-hosts I just cant see them getting
through and the same with Poland.

Players to watch: Modric and Ballack

Group C:
Netherlands
Italy
Romania
France

The so called “Group of Death” is a tough one to call, and I think Romania
have no chance at all here. Italy, France and The Netherlands… Two must go
through but who? I’m going to tip Italy to get through here as they have the
confidence after winning the World Cup, but will the loss of Cannavaro
prevent them from going through? I just can’t decide between the other two and its
going to be a great lot of games to watch from this group.

Players to watch: Benzema and Toni

Group D:
Greece
Sweden
Spain
Russia

Spain are the ultimate under-achievers but I can’t see them not going
through here, there team is getting stronger and stronger every year, and
this just might be there year. Any team would dream of having Torres and
Villa up front. Although Greece caught everyone by surprise by winning the
trophy last time there is absolutely no way there going to do it again I’m
afraid. This is between Russia and Sweden but I can just see Russia sneaking
through here with the class of Arshavin.

Players to watch: D. Villa and Arshavin

The teams that stand out most for me to win it are Italy, Spain and
Germany. I will be very surprised if any other team manage to get there hands
on the trophy this year, although I have a sneaky feeling that Russia and
Croatia will do very well this year.

Good luck to all teams and enjoy Euro 2008.

  1. Good read. I have a small feeling that Arshavin will inspire Russia to win this thing. Maybe then his price might go up by one or two or three million 😆
