Max O’ Collins: How do we push on?
By Ryan G • Jun 3rd, 2008 • Category: Opinion |What does next season hold?
We have built a backbone here. Moyes, with his skill for sniffing out a
good bargain has managed to create a really strong and resilient outfit.
Moyes now has the funds to make this ‘average team, punching above their
weight,’ a top class outfit to challenge for major trophies.
We need a good cup run later on in the season. We failed to get past the third round
of the F.A cup this season, and then were knocked out in the UEFA cup in
March. If we manage to stay in cup competitions come April May, then I feel
the players will have something to play for (their places in the cup final
team) and therefore our league form will benefit.
After that defeat to Fiorentina we went off to Craven Cottage, lost and then it all went down
hill and our 4th places ambitions were ended.
Transfer targets:
Key: 1/5 means how likely I feel the move that the will happen
Arshavin – 4/5 – The skilful Russian has caught the eye of
Moyes since Zenits trip to Goodison in December, but will the 12 million
pounds price tag deter Moyes?
Jo – 2/5 – He is a top class goal scorer, no doubt about it, but can we
really fork out 18 million pounds for another striker when we already have
4?
Dudu – 3/5 – Another Brazilian plying his trade in Russia. Is he worth 8
million pounds? Could he be another one of Moyes’ shrewd signings?
Sidwell – 2/5 – Why not? Out of favour at Chelsea, would bring back up to
the team, with Villa interested as well it could be an interesting
tug-of-war to secure his signature.
Fernandes – (Loan) 4/5 Joaquin – 4/5 – after a poor season from Valencia both these
ambitious players look set to leave. We would most certainly welcome them if
the price is right.
Owen – 1/5 – with AJ being touted as a possible leaver this transfer
window, it could pave the way for the little Englishman to take his place.
Zoltan Gera – 2/5 – on a bosman, he doesn’t seem to want to stay at West
Brom despite their promotion. The only issue is whether or not Moyes wants
him. He would provide good back up to the team and I reckon would be worth a
shot on a free.
