Everton have succeeded with their planning application for an ambitious 52,888-seat stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

It now appears that the club have taken the biggest steps towards their new home, with only Secretary of State approval standing in the way at this stage. The government will have 21 days to assess and make their decision.

The project will bring in a £1.3bn boost the economy and create as many as 15,000 jobs.

Chairman Bill Kenwright was understandably delighted with the news: “Whilst today is just one more step in our long journey, it is a very important one. Farhad [Moshiri] and I would like to thank Denise and Colin and their dedicated team for the extraordinary hard work and commitment that has got us to today.

At 6pm, we’ll be live on Youtube to react to this news joined by David (aka Basil) and Mabbsy (Andy). David has completed the first part (3 years) of his architecture course and is currently working in industry, ready to provide his insight and knowledge.
