Everton’s Director Of Football Marcel Brands is set to sign a new contract with the club.

Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri spoke with TalkSport on Thursday and cleared the air surrounding the 58-year-old.

It had previously been speculated that the club could part ways with Marcel, with an approach for ‘Iran legend’ Ali Daei reported.

But it appears now that the Dutchman – who also sits on the club board – will sign a new contract, after Farhad Moshiri confirms a deal is close.

OUR REACTION AND ANALYSIS:

‘We are happy with his performance and Marcel is happy here’ was a clear message and Moshiri reiterated that his Everton project is very much a long-term work in progress, especially in terms of recruitment.

Everton fans have mixed views on Marcel Brand’s performance, with the Dutchman often criticised for signings such as Fabian Delph and certainly last season, Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi.

There has also been partially inconsistent recruitment with the squad left without depth in key areas and many argue the club have not always been successful offloading players permanently until their contracts expire – as evident with the likes of Cenk Tosun’s heavily subsidised loan to Beskitas.

In contrast, Marcel Brands has been praised heavily for the signings of Lucas Digne, Richarlison and more recently James Rodriguez, and Everton will be keen to see similar excellent recruitment over what is expected to be a three year extension.
