Wigan Man Linked With Everton Move

Everton have been linked with an unlikely move for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy.

The Daily Star reports that should Everton’s top-scorer Maroune Fellaini leave this month, manager David Moyes will make a bid for young McCarthy’s services.

The 22-year-old joined Wigan from Hamilton in 2009 and has made over 100 appearances since signing.

However, funds are set to be tight at Goodison Park, with Moyes adamant none of his players are leaving – Fellaini being no exception.

We would also expect that if Fellaini would leave the funds would be invested in a number of high-calibre players rather than what many would regard as prospects.

Reports suggest Fellaini’s buyout clause is around £30m and can only be activated by a club currently in the Champions League. It’s also believed the player wishes to remain at Everton until at least until the end of the season to see whether he can fulfil his ambitions with his current club.
