Manchester City Sign Rodwell

Manchester City have completed the signing of Jack Rodwell for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old England international has signed a 5-year-deal with the Premier League champions after Everton accepted a reported £12m bid from Manchester City in a deal which could eventually see the blues pocket £17m.

The boyhood Evertonian was only just given the number 8 shirt and was tipped to eventually form a central midfield partnership with fellow academy graduate Ross Barkley.

However manager David Moyes made the decision to cash in on the promising midfielder despite the player himself not actively perusing a move away from Goodison Park.

Upon signing, Rodwell said that he was looking forward to play in front of the City fans and working with manager Roberto Mancini, who today claimed that – for the first time – Rodwell would be playing for a team that “plays to win”.

Rodwell also gave a special thanks to Everton Football Club:

“I would like to place on record my thanks to everyone at Everton Football Club. The Manager David Moyes has been brilliant for me and helped make me the player that I am today,” said Rodwell.

“I have a special relationship with the Chairman, Mr Kenwright, who did not want me to leave but this is too good an opportunity for me to refuse.”
