Injuries could take their toll – Wigan v Everton Preview

By • Nov 22nd, 2008 • Category: Match Previews, News |

Wigan vs Everton JJB Stadium Monday 24th 20:00pm Setanta Sports 1

Everton travel the short distance to the JJB on good form having gained 11 points from the last 15. However, having dropped 2 points at home to Boro last week, the blues will be hoping to gain 3 points and go into 6th come Monday night. With Arsenal losing if Everton win they can go just 2 points of a Champions League spot. A few weeks back it was considered a poor start to the campaign but now with 19 points and comfortably positioned in the table things are looking brighter for the blues’. There is still room for improvement though. The performances have not been there this season and all 5 games won have been won by goals in the last 15 minutes.

Wigan are currently 17th and are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference. With only 1 win in 7 league games the Latics need a win to revitalise their season.

TEAM NEWS
Midfield pair Marouane Fellaini(groin problem) and Steven Pienaar(knee problem) are struggling and will face tests over the weekend to prove their fitness – these injuries could be crutial in the result.

Tim Cahill came through 87 minutes in Australia’s game in midweek and should be fit enough to take part, however its belived he’s been playing through a deal of pain.

Wigan strike force Emile Heskey(hamstring problem) and Amr Zaki(rib and calf issues) are doubtful for the monday night game as are Mario Melchiot(knee) and Jason Koumas(groin). Emmerson Boyce is suspended after being sent off against Newcastle.

Prediction
Wigan 0-1 Everton: Wigan might be missing Zaki and Heskey and without these two its hard to see where they will score from. Everton will be looking to move into 6th place and 1 point behind Arsenal which should spur them onto a hard worked victory, but expect a tight match. FollowEverton contingency will be there!
