Wages

RE: Wages
Arsenal have the same problem with their wage structure of 80k, we're not the only one. If you break your wage structure for one player, you'll have ever other player demanding similar pay rises so it's not just the added cost of the one player, it's the added cost of every other player who would either demand or be entitled to similar contract rises.

Pompey and West Ham both broke their wage structure and had to sell a lot of players to stay afloat because it was unsustainable, whilst Villa I believe have wages around equal to their turnover, which again is unsustainable.

The problem at Everton is we're being run at our limit, hitting break even every year with little or nothing to spare, and whether it's under pressure from the fans or Kenwright running us as a fan not businessman, but every spare penny is being used on the playing squad not expansion of the business, hence the outsourcing of areas that need expanding like retail, as we need others to invest because we've not got the ability to. With us being run at our limit, an increase in wages would require a decrease elsewhere, our investment in the business is already inadequate, so that can't be cut, and we've got no more deadwood in the squad to get rid of to free up wages, so an increase in wages would lead to a cut in transfer funds, which once again we can't afford.

Until we get a cash injection into the club allowing for long term off field investment and giving us room to breathe or we increase our revenue significantly then we're not going to be able to break our wage structure. We're being run at our limit with little room for change at the moment.

SSig_agreed But its better to be run properly instead of being run into the ground.
