Lawrenson Prediction: 2-1 victory
No doubt all the buzz around Goodison Park is centred around next Saturday's FA Cup semi-final with Liverpool at Wembley. But Everton have a job to do before they think about reaching the FA Cup final for the second time in three years. Sunderland might be sitting comfortably in mid-table but not for one second do I think Martin O'Neill will allow his players to relax until the season is over. There are players playing for their futures while O'Neill will be determined to avenge the FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Everton last month. I agree David Moyes, with one eye on the weekend, faces something of a selection dilemma but I doubt the Everton manager will make wholesale changes. Anyway Steven Pienaar is cup-tied so he will definitely be involved in this one.

My prediction: 2-1 victory
In terms of league position this a real six pointer. We'll be looking at next Saturday of course but a solid performance is necessary here, and we just don't lose to Sunderland. Sunderland seem to be either solid defesnively are good in attack, but not both at the same time. I think they'll come to Goodison to try and win, but even if our heads aren't in it we'll score more. For once I can say, even if we rest players we should come out on top in this one, even in the striking department! I doubt Moyes will play the team he intends to play in the FA Cup though, and I wonder, if someone coming pulls out a MOTM performance will it mess his choices up for next weekend. Regardless, a win here will be a huge step to finishing at least 8th (bear in mind we are at Old Trafford next), and a solid, organised performance should get us that. No silly injuries or cards please.

"During my time at Everton, Goodison Park came to feel like a second home, with the supporters of the club, and the people of the city becoming a second family to me. If you were to take Everton out of the City, I firmly believe the club could no longer call itself the ‘People’s Club’ and I give my whole-hearted support to the campaign to keep Everton in the City" - Duncan Ferguson
"My aim is to be an academy coach at Everton." - Joe Parkinson

I think Moyes (rightly, or wrongly) will cotton-wool a few for this one.

Sunderland will still be stinging from the cup defeat.

We'll be lucky to come away with a point.

Missed the game completely (bit of an emergency) so can't comment on performance. Didn't even get up in time to break me boycott of MotD to watch us on last (probably)

Ah well Meh The shite seemed to have escaped with a point - jammy bastards. Sunderland's lookin' increasingly like a "six-pointer" ,especially with other teams just below us closin' the gap.

Just as a afterthought - Does anyone here get the sunday express? The first few lines of the write-up is yet more billox back-slappin'. Apparently HE got us Jelavic, and HE dug deep from his own pocket to get us him.

colin mafham - your name vill also go onder liszt.

FFS! Doh

Spot on from Moyes, resting the players that really could do with it. Shame McFadden has to play but oh well.

Howard
Hibbert Jagielka Heitinga Neville
Gueye Fellaini Osman Pienaar
McFadden
Stracq

I'd have gone with Anichebe or Vellios personally alongside Denis, would have liked Drenthe to play too

Why the f*** is Fellaini starting?! He's on 9 yellows and picking up another will surely mean suspension from the semi.

I think the yellow card slate has been wiped clean (a few days ago) as somebody more up-to-date with these things might confirm?

He still might get a red though!!

Edit:

From the FA's site:

"If a Player accumulates ten cautions in FTCM (first team competitive matches) between the opening day of the Playing Season and the second Sunday of April in the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering:- Two First Team matches."

Amnesty follows this period. We then start again.

he's fine. Only red cards can get any of our players suspended
