RE: Moyes replacement?
Personally if Moyes goes I would like to see Glen Hoddle given the job.
@Mein blut ist blau - your absolutely right. Wigan and Blackpool only get good results when teams underestimate them. If you allow them to come on to you and commit players forward and then hit them on the break they're useless. If you attack them gung-hu and don't get back quickly to defend that's when they're dangerous because they can hold on to the ball with decent technical skill and quick passing and that allows them to pass through the lines between attack, midfield and defence if you're too spread out. Same as all the teams that try to play the Barca way. If it wasn't for Messi having the skill to break teams down teams that defend deep where there's no space Barca wouldn't even be able to do what they do. You need balance (unless you have Messi) and Moyes generally gets it right. It's only in the big games that he seems to forget the counter part of counter-attacking football. But yea I don't think we'll win anything with him unless we happen to get lucky and meet a team below us in the final. |

RE: Moyes replacement?
I agree with you to a point. We can play in a more constructive way. 90% of the time the centre-halves punt the ball long and 95% of the time possession is lost. There are ways to defend properly while distributing the ball to the wings or through midfield. That's not playing 'the Barcelona way' that's just common sense. If we retain possession higher up the pitch we logically will create more chances. Surely that's not too much to ask. We don't have to sacrifice our defensive strategy to play constructive football. We have on numerous occasions deployed this better style of football to good effect, but we seem to be clueless playing the RS, that has to be Moyes's fault. He seems to alter his tactics too much depending on the team we are playing whereas we have proved on numerous occasions this season that we are not far away from playing exciting football while defending properly - the RS aside.

Be interestin' to find out what neVILE was, in a former life, though ![]() b****** - . Moyes can't even get his team to dominate a game from start to finish, nevermind one half. It's always been the same.We never get goin' until after Christmas. We can't dominate sides for 90mins. We can play some half-decent stuff without scorin' , but we can play average to shite and beat sides by 2 or more. We can keep possession on the edge of the opposition box, but panic & hoof it clear first time, every time, at the merest hint of the ball reachin' our area. We've scored one of the lowest totals in the league this season, yet our defence is one of the best. There is no medium, or consistency, to be found anywhere within a moyes side. Except, of course, being consistently shite when playing at a "top 4" ground. rat kopite -> <-MeJUSTICE FOR EDDIE GILFOYLE!! http://eddiegilfoylesupport.com/the%20ca...foyle).pdf |

RE: Moyes replacement?
Bring back Gordon Lee. Apart from Cattrick and HK he had us playing some of the best football I've ever seen.

RE: Moyes replacement?
Obviously Hoddle isn't the most popular choice.
He has experience of Spain recently, played and managed at the highest level and always done a decent job. He's also still a young man with something to prove. On the issue of how to play. The Chelsea game shows even Barca find it hard to break down teams if they park the bus and break especially if Messi isn't on form. Offcourse you're right, teams do need balance which is the point I was trying to make. Only Barca can play like Barca and I'm not even sure they can now. I think that coupled with Xavi and Iniesta getting a bit older is probably the reason Guardiola has gone. I think that era is over, still will never forget them beating Madrid 5-0. Moyes generally gets it right although I agree he hasn't the best record in big games and personally I would like us to play with more freedom generally. Failing that if you play counter attacking football at least bring a player that CAN couter attack :-) Guaye and Osman are too slow to support Jelavic or provide any danger with balls played behind the defence. But Martinez and Rodgers etc would be disasterous. I like watching both teams and love the way they play but if results didn't go our way I could see us the fans turning on them very fast and the wheels coming off almost as fast. Fans and Swansea and Wigan don't have the same expectations. Oh well mute point if Moyes is staying. |
