Victory for Everton as City give up Lescott chase

By Ian Phillips • Aug 8th, 2009 • Category: News |

Everton have become the first club this summer to successfully hold off advances from Manchester City for one of their top stars. After holding talks with Bill Kenwright, City gave up their chase for Lescott as Everton again refused to sell. In a summer that’s seen Man United unable to keep Ronaldo and Tevez, Arsenal unable to keep Adebayor and Toure, and Aston Villa unable to hold onto Gareth Barry, it is of great credit to the board and David Moyes preventing Lescott from leaving the club to double his wages at the ambitious Eastlands club. Meanwhile it is expected that negotiations for Philippe Senderos will be concluded soon so that the player can be in the squad for the Premier League opener next week. It is also rumoured that Rasmus Elm could join this week.
