Moyes eyes locked…

By Ryan Grant • Jun 6th, 2008 • Category: News |

Euro 2008 will finally kick off on the 7th June and there will be plenty of players David Moyes will be looking over. Evertonians will be hoping that Andrei Arshavin (Russia), Kim Kallstrom (Sweden) and Arda Turan (Turkey) will be closely monitored by Moyes and the Everton scouts, all who have been linked with the club in the past few weeks.

When asked about what his plans were over Euro 2008 David Moyes replied: “I will be on holiday but I will probably try to take in one or two games and check out two or three players”.

Andrei Arshavin seems to be on the top of most Evertonians wish list but Everton will face stiff competition from clubs such as, Schalke and Manchester City. Zenit Saint Petersburg’s manager Dick Advocaat has already said he won’t be able to hold on to the Russian dynamo and is apparently holding out for around £12 million for his services.

Kim Kallstrom who is 27 and plays in central midfield for his club side Lyon has said that he will not be making any decisions over his future until after Euro 2008. When asked about the possibility of moving to Everton he replied: “It’s a great club that plays at the top of the Premier League so why not? You never know, we’ll see in the summer after the Euros.”

Arda Turan, who can play on either wing for Galatasaray is in the Turkey squad for Euro 2008. The 21 year old has attracted interest from a number of clubs including Newcastle United. Reports in Turkey claimed Moyes had made a £10 million bid for his services but these reports were unfounded.

However, Moyes is still thought to be interested in the Turkish international along with Arshavin and Kallstrom. If these players perform well in this year’s tournament then expect a busy summer for Mr. Kenwright and Mr. Wyness at Goodison Park.

Another player thought to be on Moyes’ wish list is Spain winger Joaquin, who will not be on our boxes these next few weeks as the player was not included in the squad for the Championships by Luis Aragonés.

There will be many other players Moyes will be watching during the Championships, and it is to be expected that some new names will be popping out of the hat. In that case anyone of those players could be putting on a blue shirt next season.

It has also been touted today that Moyes is prepared to spend £6 million to gain the services of Tom Huddlestone who is currently plying his trade at Tottenham Hotspur. He is thought to be a direct replacement for Lee Carsley who completed his move to Birmingham City earlier this week after passing a medical.

  1. Terrific read. Really lovin’ the new site.

Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin,

     Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin,

  2. Midfield is the key area to strengthen – two centre mids are required, along with a winger.

Hopefully quality is brought in – Turan or Arshavin would be fantastic!

Maybe he’ll also spot a bargain!

  3. I’d like to see any of these at GP next season. At least 1/2 BIG signings are needed to try and make the step up next season

  4. All three

  5. I just hope we can sign Arshavin!

  6. I don’t know too much about Turan but Kallstrom and Arshavin would be great additions for Everton. Kallstrom is a strong central midfilder with all the key attributes both attacking and defensive, and we all know about how good Arshavin is.

However, I think Joaquin is one of those flair players who is only in it for himself from what i’ve heard from the media, and that wouldn’t suit Everton team-work ethics.

Also I would love to Huddlestone at Goodison next season.

  7. I think we will add 6 players this summer. 3 class acts, and 3 squad players.

Unsurprisingly I’d like to see Arshavin, but he is small and a bit lightweight and we need to think carefully where he’d fit in

Huddlestone would be a good call if we can get him

And Turan, but again, he’s small (i think) and we need more height.

So unless we also bring in Bradley, Gera and Fernandes, the above won’t happen.

  8. Will they be Arshavin, Kallstrom, Huddlestone, Lewis, Fernandes  and Ramsay?

  9. Joaquin is full of talent and he’ll be a great asset to our team and if we do get Arshavin and huddlestone it’ll set us up to challenge the top four next season as well as the UEFA cup as we’ll have more top talent.

by doing this we would have more quality players and we would not have to rely on arteta all the time to save us and we won’t suffer from fatigue like last season were we blew the whole season.

    come on moyesy
    don’t let us down!

  10. if we sign the correct players, i think we can take this team to the next level, for the future we just need more financial backing either by being taken over by an investor or a new staidium which is desberatly needed

  11. Agree with Jo Blue, 2 massive signings and some squad players.

  12. will be keeping eyes on turan and arshavin

  13. while we are all guilty of living in a dream world expecting our manager ‘david moyes’ to sign star players of the quality of KALLSTROM-ARSHAVIN-JOQUIN we have to be a bit more realistic, the said named players willl be representing their respective countrys, with the exception of joquin,in EURO 2008,should KALLSTROM AND ARSHAVIN perform to the qualitiy of football their capable of, competition for their signitures will be rife, there value will increase tenfold,so lets hope they both have a stinker and don’t bring to much attention upon them-selfs.

  14. wooooooo

  15. Sefton, why would we want them if they play crap and have a stinker? :!:

  16. Listen the truth is we need to sign quality players if we want that champs league spot,
and by paying 5 mil for an un experienced aaron ramsey then that is a waste of money, we need to sign good players and be prerpared to pay big aswell, we need players with an attacking mind the likes of joaquin and arshavin, everton are scared of putting there hands in there pocket, we need investment and bill kenwright and bully beef are not the people we need running our club, kenwright is a panto queen and has no money, we need to realise that everton are goin nower with kenwright and wyness in charge, we cant compete with spurs and city, and we cant keep relying on moyes to find diamonds in the dirt as he did with lescott and cahill, face reality and get kenwright and wyness out..

  17. as much as some of you might like kenwright and wyness we need to think about everton football club and how they are going to progress, the premiership is a money league, and you might think your gettin a free stadium, unfortunatly it wont be ours and we will be right out in kirby, wat a laughing stock everton football club will be if we move there, we are not the peoples club because we dont stand up for ourself and get dumb and dumber out, we sit there and watch everton struggle with no money and the likes of city and spurs outdo us with money, tell me why an investor would choose spurs and city over a great club like everton, hmm because of two sad acts running our club bieng selfish hindering everton to progress, not letting potential investors run our club and give us what we need so badly MONEYYYYYY.. please understand that moyes cant find diamonds in the dirt forever….

  18. arshivan is the man to take the blues , further go and get him moyes , before the so called bigger teams watch, him i reckon we could get him for 10 mill. has for moving grounds ,i have to say in long term it has to happen, when you look at the likes of sunderland, and villa ,man shityy. having bigger crowds. i couldnt beleave, we finished mid table, on fans attendances, in a report thats not, very good at all. coyb.
